Privacy Policy

The Babu Jagajivan Ram National Educational Trust is a public charitable trust founded in 1992 and registered in Bangalore, Karnataka, India (Reg. No. 586, Vol. 103). We are the data fiduciary responsible for the personal data described in this policy.

Browsing the site. You can read every public page — our programmes, impact, leadership, gallery, news and blog — without giving us any personal information and without creating an account.

When you create an account. Accounts are handled by Clerk, our authentication provider. If you sign in with Google, Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with us; we never see or receive your Google password. If you sign up with an email address and password, your password is stored only by Clerk in hashed form and is never visible to the Trust. We keep your name, email address and (if you provide one) phone number.

If you volunteer. We record your area of interest, your availability, and any note you choose to write, so that we can contact you about suitable work.

If you donate. We record the donation amount, currency, date and status, along with the name, email address and phone number associated with the donation. Payments are processed by our payment gateway. We never receive or store your card, UPI or bank credentials. Where the law requires it, we also record whether a contribution is a foreign contribution, and the donor's country, so that we can meet our obligations under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act.

Administrative records. When someone signs in to manage the website, we log the action taken, the time, the IP address and the browser used. This is a security and accountability measure and applies to Trust administrators, not to ordinary visitors.

The assistant on this site. Messages you type into the website assistant are sent to our AI provider to generate a reply. We do not store your conversations, and they are not linked to your account. Please do not enter sensitive personal information into it.

We use personal data only for the purposes it was given:

• To let you sign in to your account and keep it secure.
• To contact you about volunteering, if you have offered to volunteer.
• To process and acknowledge donations, issue receipts, and keep the financial records the Trust is required by law to maintain.
• To send you updates about our work, where you have asked to receive them. Every such email includes a way to stop receiving them.
• To protect the website against misuse and to investigate security incidents.

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal data. We do not use it for advertising or profiling.

We share personal data only with the service providers that make this website work, and only to the extent they need it:

• Clerk — account creation, sign-in and session security.
• Google — only if you choose to sign in with Google, and only to confirm your identity.
• Supabase— the database and file storage where the site's content and records are held.
• Vercel — the hosting platform that serves this website.
• Our payment gateway — to process donations securely.
• Our AI provider — to generate replies in the website assistant.

Some of these providers operate servers outside India. We may also disclose information where we are required to do so by law, or to a regulator or auditor exercising a lawful power.

We keep your account and volunteer details for as long as your account is open. Financial records relating to donations are kept for the period required by Indian law, which is generally at least eight years, even if you later close your account. Administrative logs are kept for a limited period for security purposes.

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you may ask us to confirm what personal data we hold about you, to correct anything inaccurate, to erase data we no longer need to keep, and to withdraw a consent you previously gave. You may also nominate someone to exercise these rights on your behalf.

To make any of these requests, write to us at contact@bjrtrust.org. We will respond within a reasonable time. Some records — donation receipts in particular — must be retained even after a deletion request, because the law requires it.

The site is served entirely over an encrypted connection. Passwords are never stored by the Trust. Access to personal records is limited to the trustees and staff who need it, and administrative actions are logged. No system can be guaranteed perfectly secure, but we take these obligations seriously and review them as the site grows.

This website is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly create accounts for children. Several of our programmes serve children, but the personal details of those beneficiaries are handled offline, under the safeguards of the programme concerned, and are not collected through this website. If you believe a child has created an account here, please contact us and we will remove it.

We use only the cookies necessary to keep you signed in and to keep the site secure. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not track you across other websites.

If we change how we handle personal data, we will update this page and change the date shown at the top. Where a change is significant and affects data you have already given us, we will make a reasonable effort to tell you directly.
